Overview

Brahmatal is one of the most beautiful and adventurous Himalayan treks one can opt for during winter. It offers you the best views of Mt Trishul and Mt Nanda unit along with the frozen Brahmatal lake which is exceptional to one’s eyes. The views are pretty enchanting, and one simply can’t get enough of it. Due to winters Trekking in the Himalayas during December, January and February is pretty hard however it’s not the same with this trek as it offers you the best opportunity to do a winter trek.

The best time to undertake the Brahmatal Trek is during the winter months of December to March for a true winter wonderland experience, or during the spring months of April to May for blooming landscapes and clear skies.

Important Notes

  • An additional charge of Rs 1600/- shall be included if the buffer day is used.
  • The cab costs Rs 8,000 per vehicle for an SUV and Rs 11,500 for a Tempo Traveler. The amount is divided equally between the team, the total number of vehicles used by the total number of trekkers travelling in all the vehicles.
  • Please note that while we endeavour to assist all our clients in achieving their goals, there may be times when your leader will decide to either delay or stop your ascent based on your medical conditions and AMS symptoms.
  • Kindly ensure that you arrive before the afternoon on Day 1 so you can rest well before the next day.
  • Trekkers must carry a photocopy of their photo ID along with the mandatory documents of the Medical Certificate and Disclaimer form. This is required for trek permissions before and during the trek.

  • Local transport from Kathgodam/Dehradun to Kathgodam/Dehradun
  • Experienced & Certified Mountaineer as a Trek leader.
  • A local guide with extensive knowledge of the route.
  • Vegetarian meals on the trek (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
  • A team of Local Mountain Staff (Cook, helper, Mule men/Porters).
  • Safety Equipment - First aid, medical kit, oxygen cylinders, stretchers, etc. will be available at all campsites to deal with emergencies
  • A WFR (Wilderness First Responder) certified lead who is adequately prepared to handle medical emergencies that may occur during the expedition.
  • All necessary permits and entry fees.
  • Porters/mules to carry central equipment.
  • Personal Porters for carrying trekkers’ backpacks.
  • The charge for offloading bags will be ₹350/bag/day.
  • Personal insurance or cost of an emergency evacuation.
  • Any kind of personal expenses.
  • Any other things not mentioned in the inclusions.

Tour Plan

DAY 1 Drive from Kathgodam to Lohajung

Drive Duration: 10- 11 hours | Drive Distance: 260 km |Altitude: 7,600 ft (2,316 m)

Lohajung is the base camp from which we will start our trek. It is an 8-hour drive from Kathgodam. We will arrange transport to Lohajung from Kathgodam. The vehicles leave at 6 a.m. from Kathgodam Railway Station. The cost is shared among the trekkers.

DAY 2 Trek from Lohajung to Bekaltal

Trek distance: 6 km | Trek Duration: 4-5 hours | Altitude: 9950 ft

Today the trek is moderate and gradually ascending through forests. In some sections,  you will be able to catch the views of Mt. Trishul. The Bekaltal Lake is a ten-minute walk from the campsite. It is surrounded by a thick cluster of oak trees. The waters of Bekaltal are always brown or frozen during winter.

DAY 3 Trek from Bekaltal to Brahmatal

Trek distance: 7 km | Trek Duration: 6-7 hours  | Altitude: 10,450 ft

This trek is moderate. Initially, there is a steep climb for an hour, which brings you to the meadows. From here you get to see the views of Mt Trishul and Mt Nanda Ghunti. You can also see the beautiful Ali and Bedni Bugyals of the Roopkund trek. You will walk on the ridge for some time followed by the descent to the Brahmatal campsite.

DAY 4 Trek from Brahmatal to Brahmatal top (12250ft) and then to Khorurai (9160ft)

Trek distance: 12 km | Trek Duration: 8-9 hours | Altitude: 11570 ft

Start your day with a visit to Brahmatal Lake, then trek to the summit for panoramic views. Afterwards, journey to Jhandi top for more stunning vistas before descending to your Khorurai campsite.

DAY 5 Trek Khorurai to Lohajung (7600ft)

Trek distance: 4 km | Trek Duration: 3-4 hours | Altitude: 7700 ft

We will begin our descent to Lohajung right after breakfast. Today you will trek through some thick forests and after some time you will catch the first-day trail to reach Lohajung.

DAY 6 Drive from Lohajung to Kathgodam/Dehradun

Drive Duration: 10- 11 hours | Drive Distance: 260 km

Start your day early in the morning so you can reach your destination by 6 pm. We will arrange the transportation and the cost will be shared among the trekkers.
